Tilyen Mucik / Plant-Based

Plant-Based, a photobook by Tilyen Mucik, includes a series of images of the same name, created using the alternative photographic technique of the chlorophyll process. This is based on an organic process in which the image is created on a plant leaf as a reaction of chlorophyll to the UV spectrum of sunlight. Mucik's project continues the exploration of botanical photography, which is the main theme of her oeuvre. In addition to reproductions of the works, the book also includes motifs on the foils used in the process and offers an insight into her creative process. The photographs are accompanied by a love letter to Mother Nature, printed on seed paper, which encourages the reader to preserve the plant world by re-using it. The nature of the artist's photographic project calls for a book form and thus resembles a plant herbarium. The form of the herbarium in her early childhood was in fact the beginning of the artist's desire to explore the plant world.
