Where It Remembers is a monograph by the artist Sara Rman, who, through her long-term photographic process, explores landscape as a space of constant change, memory and material traces. The project draws on Heraclitus’s idea of the river that cannot be stepped into twice, and is based on persistently returning to the same riverbank, where subtle changes and the relationships between natural and human processes are revealed.
The images in the book depart from classical photography, intertwining collaged surfaces and tactile structures. The visuals function as a series of traces and imprints, inviting a slow, sensory reading where the gaze intertwines with the experience of touch. Thus, Where It Remembers is not merely a photobook, but an intimate artifact opening up a space between image, memory and matter, and encouraging the reader toward a more attentive experience.
