Dušan Mandić / Slikarjev dnevnik (1984–1990)

Just over four decades after Dušan Mandić, who serves as the IRWIN group’s documentarian and bibliographer, began keeping a diary, Slikarjev dnevnik [The Painter’s Diary] has been published as a book. Quite in line with IRWIN’s artistic epistemology, the publication is a reprint of Dnevnik [Diary], which should certainly be read as a document of a certain time and, at the same time, in relation to (self)historicisation as a form of artistic and political action by alternative groups in the 1980s. It offers us a unique insight into the creative process and artistic epistemology of the IRWIN group, while also revealing fragments of the young artist’s personal world and the intertwining of that world with events at both the local and global levels during a time of dramatic sociopolitical change.
