CUKR #5 / Work
CUKR #5 / Work
The fifth issue of Cukr is dedicated to the theme of work and features six essays, four photo essays and three columns. Among the exceptional content, you will be able to read an interview with one of the most important science fiction authors of the moment, Kim Stanley Robinson, and an interview with the theorist of the so-called labour of love, Alva Gotby. The sociologist Primož Krašovec and the anthropologist David Graeber reflect on different forms of (meaningless) labour in essays, while the central essay by the academic Sam Johnson Schlee focuses on rank, kitsch, and all the forms of labour it hides – both in the colonial past and in the surplus-value created by working men and women. The journalist Lara Paukovič presents the work of influencers (is it really as workless as it seems?), while the writer Nataša Kramberger devotes a column to work that only becomes visible when someone stops doing it.
The rich visual design includes works by Ivan Mitrevski, Marija Medved, Eva Bevec, Nejc Prah, Blaž Gutman, Borut Kranjc, Stojan Kerbler and Andrej Troha.
The magazine is an initiative of Cukrarna.
