Claudia Angelmaier explores the images of art and their history. Her photo-graphic image constructions focus on books and individual book pages, postcards and slides which depict reproductions of the “masterpieces of art”. The reproduced image media are both a tool and the result of the systematic approach to art. They convey their own history and the specific function for knowledge of art and the visual distribution of art works.
In her works Claudia Angelmaier is part of a movement which, starting with Louise Lawler and Sherrie Levine in the late 1970s, re-addresses fundamental questions of appropriation art in contemporary art production.
