Helmut and Johanna Kandl have been living and working together for the last ten years. A lot of their photographs emerge from their travels, often to former socialist countries in middle and eastern Europe and several originated in their home in Vienna and Berlin. They focus on people in public spaces such as street markets, amusement parks, demonstrations, parades, celebrations and so on, thereby unveiling their social, economical, and political interests, as well as their humor and sensibility for absurd situations. The basis for their work is their photo-archive.
