Katharina Sieverding in Austria 1964-2008, Vol. 1 Salzburg

Soon after she began as a young artist documenting Joseph Beuys, Katharina Sieverding developed into a full-fledged member of the supremely influential community of Dusseldorf-based artists – including the Bechers and Sigmar Polka, among others – with her ground-breaking, monumental photo-collages. This beautifully produced monograph is an appraisal of Sieverding’s complete works to date, the first book ever to bring her work in well-deserved detail to American readers. Born in Czechoslovakia, Sieverding has long made huge, deeply political photo-based works that anticipated the direction taken by Americans like Barbara Kruger and Richard Prince. Her work is edgy and evocative, with strong graphic qualities, historical references, and sly political commentary.
