In the 1950s, in a small village in the deep Natisone Valleys, two steps from the border with Tito’s Yugoslavia, a factotum carpenter decided to photograph his community. After returning from France, where he had fought during the Second World War, Tin Piernu, a self-taught photographer, composed a remarkable gallery of faces by portraying his village folk. The book brings forward 200 photographs approx., selected from what was left of this village photographer’s archive, by ‘re-reading’ them in three textual and iconographic segments providing the context to the work in accordance with several viewpoints.
